Drug Dealers

Have you ever noticed on TV how broke some drug dealers actually appear? The COPS show often features an army of police charging into the house where the dealer lives. The house usually does not have many people in it – not enough to warrant a whole platoon barging in. There are often children, enveloped in squalor, with a bleary eyed dealer father staggering in front of the camera to be arrested.

The dealer was probably lured into thinking he could make big money by dealing, but at least the dealers we see on TV aren’t making the big bucks. There is always someone at the bottom of the money chain, making pennies on the dollar compared to their upline’s take. Hopefully some big guys get arrested, but we don’t see it.

Whether it is crack cocaine, pot or heroin – the risks are the same. Someone who sells drugs is putting their whole future on the line. In addition to stunting their education and careers, they risk losing everything to jail and an indelible record, which limits career opportunity.

If they are dealing to feed their own addiction, the situation is even worse.

Anyone alive deserves better than this.

If you know someone needs drug treatment and is going down a wrong path, get them into effective drug treatment.
